“When the vision of the revolutionary artist, rooted in the Dionysian right hemisphere, combines with precognition, art will prophesy the future conception of reality.”- Leonard Shlain, Art & Physics, 1991
The collective mind, the moving force behind the Zeitgeist, first speaks through right-brained, intuitive individuals. It is important then to develop this underutilized hemisphere.
According to Scientific American Mind, there are four suggested ways improve our creativity, and thus strengthen our right brain:
- Wonderment | Try to retain a spirit of discovery, a childlike curiosity about the world. And question understandings that others consider obvious.
- Motivation | As soon as a spark of interest arises in something, follow it.
- Intellectual Courage | Strive to think outside accepted principles and habitual perspectives such as “We’ve always done it that way.”
- Relaxation | Take the time to daydream and ponder, because that is often when the best ideas arise. Look for ways to relax and consciously put the ideas into practice.
The methods to strengthen the right hemisphere of our brain range from practical to mystical. One successful method is by using Applied Kineisology.
With Kinesiology, a practitioner (or yourself if you’ve taken the appropriate courses) sets a goal for you, then engages in muscle-testing to determine which muscles and meridians are inhibiting the achievement of that goal.
The goals can be anything, even to strengthen your right-brain, in order to be more holistic in thinking. An alternative is a branch of Applied Kinesiology called Brain Gym that uses simple physical movements to enhance learning and performance.
